The Oakville Crusaders would like to announce the 2017 Coaching Staff for the Senior Men’s program. Rodin “Koko” Lozada takes on the role of Head Coach after serving as an assistant coach last season. “It is an absolute honor to be the Head Coach of one of the most successful clubs in the country.” Lozada commented when asked about his new position with the Crusaders. “I am looking forward to building on what was accomplished last season and continuing the tradition of winning at the club.”
The rest of the coaching staff is made up of a vast amount of experience and championship pedigree. Former Head Coach Mark Jutronich steps down from his previous role but will contribute his knowledge in a supporting role as Skills Coach. Current National Team Manager and Ontario Blues Manager Mark Winokur also joins the staff and brings with him an intimate knowledge of High Performance Rugby along with his penchant for winning trophies as he has won a combined 11 McCormick and McTier Cups. Long time club members Grahme Walsh and Jules Petrucci round out the coaching staff. When asked what he liked about the coaching staff Lozada explained, “Every single member of the staff knows how to win. Winokur and Jutronich have both been Head Coaches in the Marshall Premiership and have won multiple championships, Petrucci was a member of the Yeomen dynasty in the mid 90’s, and Walsh was the cornerstone of the McMaster scrum that won the 1992 OUAA Championship.”
The club would also like to thank and acknowledge Crusaders stalwart Steve Eastwood who served as Senior Men’s Manager the previous three seasons. Taking over the vital role is Nikki Corless, a Crusader for 10 years who played in the Junior program for 8 years. Wise beyond her years and extremely meticulous the third year Business Communications and Geography student at Wilfred Laurier takes on the enormous task of keeping the Senior Men’s program organized and running smoothly. “I can’t wait to start a great season as the Senior Men’s Team Manager.” an excited Corless commented.
The 2017 pre-season begins with a Players Meeting to be held on Saturday February 25th at the Crusaders clubhouse starting at 5:00pm. The new Coaching Staff will be on hand and goals for the new season will be discussed.
