With strong on field performances and equally strong off field management, the Crusaders are set to lead the sport of Rugby in Ontario forward in the years to come.
50 Years of Rugby
The Crusaders pride themselves on having a history full of colorful characters as well as some outstanding rugby players. Born out of a group of ex-pats longing for the game of their homeland and with no clubs in existence in the Mississauga/Oakville area, the founding members of the Crusaders were compelled to create their own club.
Founded in 1968 the club had humble beginnings – playing on under developed fields and beer-ups in basements and back yards. Over time the club developed and moved to the Crusader Park of today – boasting three quality pitches and one of the top clubhouses in Canada – in 1987.
We’ve been growing and playing quality rugby ever since and are now the largest club in the country, with over 700 members, offering programs for male ad female players from the age of 5.
In the past decade our Mini (ages 5-12) and Junior (aged 13-18) programs have grown tremendously, in the 2017 season accounting for over 75% of the 642 registered playing members.
Our Junior teams regularly win, or are runners-up, in Provincial championships. Many junior Crusader players represent Ontario on both men’s and women’s Provincial teams and many have represented Canada in age-grade internationals..
Over the years Crusader players have been well represented in Men’s 15 International Rugby. Starting before the days of professionalism, which began in 1995, Crusader players have received Canada “Caps” as recognition for selection to the National Team. Since 1995, of the 236 players have received Canada Caps, 12 (5%) are current or former Crusader players.Club players who have been "capped" for the Canadian National (15s) Team
