Crusaders Senior Women Update
/in Frontpage Article /by Meagan PaulCru Women look to grow their numbers for 2019 OWL season
2018 was a year to remember for Crusaders Rugby. Among the celebrations honouring 50 years of rugby excellence at the club, the Senior Women dominated the TRU with an outstanding 12-0 record on the season.
As a result of that success, the Senior Women have been promoted to the OWL for 2019. In addition to leading the team to an undefeated record, returning head coach Kailyn Jones was named Rugby Ontario’s Female Club Coach of the Year. With that pedigree of leadership at the helm, the Senior Women are looking to grow the program and continue their winning momentum of last year. Coach Jones had this to say in response to the record-setting season:
“I’ve been with the Crusaders for almost 6 years now and it’s given me good friends, a competitive environment and opportunity to grow as a player and coach. I’d like to extend an OPEN INVITIATION to any athlete that wants to join our program. Playing in the Ontario Women’s League is a huge feat. However, we have put an emphasis on growing our program on the field AND off the field. Whether you’re interested in playing at a competitive level, or are looking for a rugby team to have fun with throughout the week, I would encourage you to come out for our program. We are excited to see a lot of new and old faces working together to take on the OWL.”
If you are interested in joining the team, or if you know someone who would be interested, please email coach Jones directly at k.jones.3@hotmail.com
6 Nations at Crusaders
/in Frontpage Article /by WebmasterCrusaders Super-Bowl party
/in News /by WebmasterThis year we are planning on resurrecting the famous Super Bowl party at the club…
We start at four with a flag football game for all comers, whatever the weather!!!!
In the club we will have game squares with winners taking all and a chilli competition, we welcome all comers to bring along a pot and be judged by the esteemed panel to win a much coveted award “The Nick McKay Killer Chilli Award” It was so good nobody could actually eat it.
We will have drink specials and $12 pitchers of Sapporo as a main feature.
We are asking for a $5 cover charge or a donation to Foodshare Foodbank – January is their hardest time of year and a tin of tomatoes won’t cut it, please think diapers, toiletries, batteries and food you would eat (not McKay’s chilli)
Look forward to seeing you all there.

As a Crusader member from the early 1970’s Dave was a regular and reliable player, pulling on the gold jersey at all levels of the club. He would gladly play where ever needed and was an enthusiastic tourist – Montreal, Windsor and various US destinations. Dave played well into the 1990’s and enjoyed both the physical and social aspects of rugby. In the 2000’s and 2010’s Dave was a regular attendee at home matches, always accompanied by his dog.
Born in Trinidad, Dave was a well respected photographer, avid fisherman and family man.
Helen and Dave were strong club supporters, attending and contributing to various club functions and events. In the early days, Dave’s influence with Mayor Ann Mulvale helped secure our present home on the Ninth Line.
The DeVerteuil family are planning a celebration of Dave’s life – details will be posted.
