U14 Lancer's relentless attacking slays the Vikings
The U14 Lancers traveled to Oshawa on Saturday 25th. Despite having a number of regular Lancers injured we put out a good side with some strong ‘call-ups’.
We started strong with an uninterrupted 3 minutes of continuous attacking play and quick re-cycling, fiercely defended by solid Oshawa tackling. Eventually we broke through to score. The Vikings larger pack dominated many of the scrums but we dominated open play and improved our scrumming as the game went on. Our quick re-cycling and strong attacking backs broke through to score again and again. However, the final score doesn’t do the Vikings justice as they fought valiantly, and defended well.
Special mentions for our Cru captain Liam Bowman, who accelerated through the opposition almost at will, scoring many of our tries. Also to Ben Robinson, who was a last minute call up, making a great contribution to the back row, and despite being the smallest player on the field, bringing down a 220 lbs giant Viking !!
We made 13 tries, with 6 conversions for a final score of 77 to 5.
The U14 Archers in the Festival League played a combined London and Brantford team away in London. They played 80 mins of rugby in very hot conditions, so it was hard work for Cru forwards with no subs while London / Brantford cycled their forward pack at will. Our boys put in a huge effort having good periods of driving and committing to rucks and mauls which resulted in good quick ball which the backs turned into tries. It was great day of rugby, the players had fun and a good result with a hard fought win to us 34 to 30.
