Wednesday June-26 saw the U17-boys Arrows team host MRA for their opening league game of the season (MRA is the Metro-Rugby Alliance – an amalgam of players from Buccaneers, Beach, Toronto Scottish and TIRF (Toronto Inner city Rugby Federation).

A strong start saw the Crusaders take an early lead, with a bullish attacking style able to crash through the MRA defences. Great tackling particularly by Jason Micheletti, and some excellent scavenging by Rory Ireland, snubbed-out the attacks from the resolute MRA team, who never backed away from the challenge thrown at them by the Arrows team.  Some quick reactions from Sean Snyman at scrum half, was able to catch the MRA #9 red handed a few times- creating quick turnover-ball for the hosts.

The Crusaders play was a little scrappy and staccato in places – but forgivable, given it was the “first” league-game of the season.  Hopefully better flow and cohesion will develop as the season progresses.  A true “captain’s innings” was played by man-of-the-match Liam Bowman – excellent leadership coupled with powerful running, meant he also contributed to the score-sheet, but highlight was a beautifully worked try – Slick-hands spinning the ball out to the left wing, for Jonathon Heys to streak away, and dot down in the corner.

Final score 47 – to the ARROWS.

Great job guys
