Weekend Preview: Senior Men Travel to Markham

Saturday, July 21st, 2018

The Senior Men’s will be taking their talents up the 404 for a showdown with a tested Markham Irish side; The boys are looking to put pen to paper this weekend and bounce back and progress through mixed results against Stoney Creek on the weekend past – Seeing the 2nd XV Out run their opponents and the 1st XV get edged ever so slightly in a tale-of-two-halves encounter.

Second XV look to continue the hot streak

Some moderate changes from the coaching staff will hope to see the 2nd Team flourish as they have been doing so against their opponents in recent weeks.

The Cameron Brothers return to their sides of the front row, with Stephen Lockhart taking the middle. Nick Kurobasa makes his first start since returning from injury, and will pair with stalwart Matt Borris in the Second Row. Back Row sees Club Captain Johnnie Scrivo take his ideal spot at No.8, flanked by Men’s Debutant Arda Icel and Dillion Downer.

Kanishka Almeida, E.J. Rerri and Taylor Palmer take familiar spots in the Backfield, followed by Avery Lecce and Brandon Rawson in the centers. The half back Pairing will see Joe Scrivo and Ruaridh McIntyre manage the game for the twos this weekend.

Reserves: Xavier Liska, Cameron Haslam, Rohan Goswami, Chris Arnold, Caleb Delaney, Jimmy Sun, Nick Jadaa, and Nathan Woods.

First XV looking to make Stand at the Square

The Men in Black will take the field this week to show the league they won’t let a close loss to the Creek keep them in the sheds. The irish will see a same-but-different squad this weekend in the First XV.

Ryan Davies takes the hooker spot, anchored by the consistent Noah Morton. Zac Pilson returns to the First grade from injury for his first start in black this season.

Chris Reid will join up with Import Jason Pelser in the lock shirts, while Andrew MacDonald, Tristan Ruse, join Robbie MacNaughton in the back row. Robbie is also getting his first nod for the Ones this year.

Rising Start Josh Englebrecht comes back in at 9, with Wilson at the 10 spot. Captain Jamie Leveridge pairs with fellow Mac Alumni Graham Dobbs in the Centers. Club Veteran Grant Schneider, Matt Nicol and Grayson Perry complete the side in the back field.

Reserves: Stephen Lockhart, Ryan Toor, Scott Delaney, Matt Borris, Johnnie Scrivo, Avery Lecce, Ruaridh McIntyre, EJ Rerri, and Matt Saunders.

“This is a Big Weekend as the league draws to a close” states head coach Lozada; “The Second Team are in the hunt for a league championship and have been playing dominant rugby for several weeks now. The 1st XV have struggled to get the results, but they have shown signs of being a very good side and have become technically proficient. They need to develop the mental side of the game and once they do that, the wins will follow.”
