Crusaders Rugby Club Announces the launch of a 6-team Inter-Club Co-Ed Touch Rugby League!!!

Touch League

To build on our great season, we are excited to offer our members a co-ed touch league on Friday nights starting September 15 ending on October 27 (6 weeks).

If you are currently a registered playing or social member, there will be no cost to join this season extending league. If you are not registered, please click the button!

YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO PLAY! (it’s an insurance thing) Team Requirements:

We are looking for 6 teams to play 2 x 20 minute games each night. Games will be played 7 v 7.

If you want to enter a team, please email Pat Daniels (see below) with the names of your players.

Team Requirements:

Minimum Players / Team: 9 Players
Maximum Players / Team: 12 Players
Minimum Age Grade: U18+
Minimum Co-Ed Gender Split / Team: 2:1 (i.e. 6 men and 3 women, or 7 women and 4 men, you get the idea) with a minimum of 2 women per team on the field at all times.

So get your phone out this long weekend and start reaching out to your mates to get your CO-ED CRU together. All teams should be formed, named and submitted to Pat by September 14th.

If you can’t fill an entire team, but you get mostly there, submit your team anyway and Pat will fill in the missing players with single players.

If you are a single player, email Pat and you will be assigned to a team.

The bar will be open afterwards for Friday Night Socials.

Looking forward to seeing you!

Crusaders to show World Cup Matches at the Club

Kickoff: Friday 8th August at 3:15 pm EDT

As we come to the final countdown for the start of the Pool matches the warm up games produced some interesting results.

It was a weekend of ups and down for all the top-ranked teams except Ireland, who remain at number one, Scotland who stay fifth following a 33-6 win over Georgia, and Wales who remain in 10th, their lowest-ever position going into a Rugby World Cup, having sat out the last round of matches.

Twickenham Stadium was the scene of not one but two momentous matches less than 24 hours apart as the All Blacks suffered the worst defeat in their history on Friday night before Fiji stunned England on Saturday.

Kickoff: Friday 8th August at 3:15 pm EDT

St Patrick’s Day Potluck

All that's left is YOU and the yummy potluck dish you bring to contribute to the feast. We’ve got beer, Guinness and Good Cheer!

All that’s left is YOU and the yummy potluck dish you bring to contribute to the feast.

Fun Fact:

Eating corned beef and cabbage has become known as a traditional Irish dish, but did you know that bacon is actually more traditional?
Believe it or not, corned beef and cabbage are actually more of an Irish American/Canadian tradition than an Irish one.
Historically, Irish bacon (a form of cured pork) was actually the meat of choice for St. Patrick’s Day. It wasn’t until the early 1900s that Irish Americans in New York City began to eat corned beef instead because it was much more affordable. Cabbage also became popular simply because it was cheap and readily available.
So now you know! You can basically bring anything you want to the potluck, call it an Irish tradition and we’ll probably go along with it.

See you on the 17th! (doors open at 6pm)

Paul Myers

It is with sadness that we are conveying news of the passing of Cru Alum Paul Myers who had been struggling with a long-term illness. Our most sincere condolences to Paul’s wife, Julie, and his children, Dayna and Mitchell, who were with him as he passed peacefully.

Paul was a Toronto Police officer for 33 years and played for Cru for a number of those years. He went on to become a transformative leader in the game in Ontario, served on club boards, advocated for inclusion, coached extensively at club and provincial levels, and co-founded TIRF, the Toronto Inner-City Rugby Foundation.

Paul was a gregarious and truly generous character who loved rugby and everyone who played the game – and his efforts to promote, improve and grow the sport will be a lasting legacy. Paul touched countless lives with his friendship, generosity, encouragement and enthusiasm – and he will be sorely missed.
